We modify this face without asking for permission. Instead, we should listen to her more carefully. The video installation Songs of the Horizon does exactly this: allowing us listen to the horizon. Her lines reminded me of a music bar, so I developed software that translates this profile into a soundscape. This way, the horizon turns into a composer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Blue Mountains\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1003222774?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"950\" height=\"534\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watou (Belgium)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kunstenfestivalwatou.be\/en\/\">Art festival Watou 2024<\/a>, I filmed the horizon around the small village of Watou and turned it into accompanying soundscapes. The video installation explores how the horizon changes through the seasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sneak Peek Songs of the Horizon\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/982425256?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"950\" height=\"534\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival could be visited from 5 July to 1 September 2024. I received a grant from the Creative Industry Stimulation Fund for this project. Read reactions from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vrt.be\/vrtnws\/nl\/2024\/07\/03\/watou-kunstenfestival-2024\/\">VRT<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poeziekrant.be\/artikels\/gedichten-gedichten-kunstenfestival-watou-2024-songs-of-the-horizon-werner-de-valk-vs-ingmar-heytze\">de Po\u00ebziekrant<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C9hsVu8t2FU\/\">The Gaze<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Watou, the video installation was presented at <a href=\"https:\/\/powfestival.com.br\/holandes-werner-de-valk-mostrou-no-pow-festival-em-primeira-mao-as-ondas-sonoras-captadas-em-ribeirao-preto-para-demonstrar-sua-tecnica-para-capturar-o-som-da-imagem\/\">POW festival<\/a>, <strong>Brasil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Amsterdam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sproutsfilmfestival.com\/Eco-Expo-Werner-de-Valk\">Sprouts Filmfestival<\/a>&nbsp;Sprouts Film Festival, I developed the following version, in which the horizons of Amsterdam East were the composer.
